ಇಲಕಲ್ಲ ನಗರ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ 1868 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಾಯಿತು. ಇಲಕಲ್ಲ ನಗರವು ಬಾಗಲಕೋಟೆ ನಗರದಿಂದ 60 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ನಗರದ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯಾ 2011ರ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆಯಂತೆ 60282 ಮತ್ತು ನಗರವು 12.53 ಚ.ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ವ್ಯಾಪಿಸಿದೆ. ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ 31-ವಾರ್ಡಗಳಿದ್ದು ಅಷ್ಟೆ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಚುನಾಯಿತ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.
City Municipal Council (CMC) Ilkal was constituted in 1868. Ilkal is a significant city situated in Bagalkot District of the southern state of India, Karnataka at a distance of 60 Kms from Bagalkot. Strategically, the city is placed at a height of 585 metres (1919 feet) above mean sea level and is located between 15.97° North latitude and 76.13° East longitude. It has a population of 60282 according to the censes of 2011 and Ilkal city stretches to an area of 12.53 Sqkms. The CMC has 31 Wards and equal number of Councilors.
The India census report published in 2001 states that Ilkal had a population of 51,956. Males constitute 51% of the population and females account for 49% of the population. In Ilkal,14% of the population is less than six years of age. The literacy rate of Ilkal is 62% which is higher than the national average literacy rate of 59.5%. Out of it, the male literacy rate is 72% and the female literacy rate is 52%.
Ilkal is famous for its hand woven sarees commonly known as Ilkal sarees.They are worn by the women living in North Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra. Ilkal is also the source of red granite stone which is exported to various places.
Ilkal has a large temple of Vijayamahanteshaswami and his religious preceptor Gurumahanta Shivayogishwara. The monument of Hazarath Syed Murtaza-Sha-Khadri lies on the eastern side of the town.
Ilkal is famous for granite as well as it is famous for Sarees. Ilkal Sarees is Famous in Karnataka, Andhra and Maharashtra. These sarees are very traditional type in Indian sarees. Sarees are available in lot of colors and different borders with rich Indian heritage.
Ilkal was an ancient weaving centre where the weaving seems to have started in the 8th century AD. The growth of these sarees is attributed to the patronage provided by the local chieftains in and around the town of Bellary. The availability of local raw materials helped in the growth of this saree About 20000 people in the town of Ilkal are engaged in saree-weaving.
The distinctive feature of Ilkal sarees is the use of a form of embroidery called as Kasuti. The designs used in Kasuti reflect traditional patters like palanquins, elephants and lotuses which are embroidered onto Ilkal sarees. These sarees are usually 9 yards in length and the palluof the Ilkal saree (the part worn over the shoulder) carries designs of temple towers. This pallu is usually made of red silk with white patterns. The end region of the pallu is made up of patterns of different shapes like hanige(comb), koti kammli (fort ramparts), toputenne (jowar) and rampa (mountain range). The border of the sari is very broad (4 to 6 inches) and red or maroon in colour and is made of different designs with ochre patterns. The saree is either made of cotton, or a mixture of cotton and silk or in pure silk. The colors traditionally used are pomegranate red, brilliant peacock green and parrot green. The sarees that are made for bridal wear are made of a particular colour called Giri Kumukum which is associated with the sindhoor worn by the wives of the priests in this region manufacturers of Ilkal Sarees.

ಜನನ-ಮರಣ(Birth and Death Online Application): 1990 ರಿಂದ ಈ ದಿನದವರೆಗೆ ಜನನ ಮತ್ತು ಮರಣ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಗಣಕೀಕೃತಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದು, ನಾಗರೀಕರು ಇನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ನಾಗರೀಕ ಸೇವಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲೆ ಜನನ-ಮರಣ ನೊಂದಣಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಪತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸೇವಾ ಶುಲ್ಕ ಪಾವತಿಸಿ ಪಡೆಯಬಹುದೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಲು ಹರ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಇದರ ಸದುಪಯೋಗ ಪಡೆಯಲು ವಿನಂತಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ನಗರಸಭೆಯ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ವೈಬ್ ಸೈಟ್ ಮೂಲಕ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಬಹುದು. ಅಧಿಕೃತ ವೆಬ್ ಸೈಟ್ : www.ilkaltown.gov.in

COMPUTARIZATION:
We are very happy to intimate the citizens of Ilkal city that we have computerized the details of Properties , Birth and Death certificates from 1990 to till date under state Government KMRP scheme and from now on wards citizens are requested to visit the citizen service centre at the office for registration and getting of Birth and Death certificates by paying service fee. Citizens are requested to make use of this facility.
ಘನತ್ಯಾಜ್ಯ ವಸ್ತು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆ:
ನಗರಸಭೆಯ 19-ವಾರ್ಡ್ ಗಳ ಘನ ತ್ಯಾಜ್ಯ ವಸ್ತು ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯನ್ನು ಗುತ್ತಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆ, ಬೀದಿಗುಡಿಸುವುದು, ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಗಾಣಿಕೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆಯ ಶುಲ್ಕವನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪದೆ ಪಾವತಿಸುವುದು. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟಂತೆ ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ದೂರುಗಳಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ನಗರಸಭೆಯ ಸಹಾಯವಾಣಿ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ-270600 ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸುವುದು. ನಗರವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಚ್ಚವಾಗಿಡಲು ಸಹಕರಿಸಿ. -ಪೌರಾಯುಕ್ತರು, ನಗರಸಭೆ, ಇಲಕಲ್ಲ.
Solid Waste Management:
Solid Waste Management in 19 wards has been outsourced. It is of two package system comprising primary collection, street sweeping and transportation to landfill site. Citizens has to pay user charges as per the MSW-rules for door-to-door collections. If you have any complaints concerning to solid waste management please call our helpline Number-270600. ಇಲಕಲ್ಲ ನಗರದ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಆಸ್ತಿಯ ಮಾಲಿಕರುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಯಂ ಘೋಷಿತ ಆಸ್ತಿ ತೆರಿಗೆ, ನೀರಿನ ತೆರಿಗೆ, ಒಳಚರಂಡಿ ಕರ, ಭೂ ಬಾಡಿಗೆ, ಲೈಸನ್ಸ್ ಫೀ, ಮಳಿಗೆ ಬಾಡಿಗೆ, ಹಳೆಯ ಘರಪಟ್ಟಿ, ಅಭಿವೃಧ್ಧಿ ಕರ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಕರಗಳನ್ನು ನಗರಸಭೆಗೆ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಭರಣಾ ಮಾಡಿ ನಗರದ ಅಭಿವೃಧ್ಧಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಹಕರಿಸಲು ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿನಂತಿಸಿದೆ.
